The short version
Most Swedish nonprofits do not choose Salesforce. They inherit it. A consultant recommended it five years ago, ten licences were free, and today there is a system two people log into, a Marketing Cloud invoice nobody quite understands and a partner who charges for every change.
The problem is not Salesforce's quality. It is the shape. Salesforce was built in 1999 for American sales teams. Nonprofit Cloud is that sales system with a nonprofit data model laid on top, and Swedish payment rails sit outside it, in add-ons. Everything is possible. Everything costs.
Samfora was built in Stockholm for Swedish fundraising and nothing else. Donors, members, volunteers, companies and foundations in one data model. Swish, Autogiro, Bankgiro and card payments matched automatically to the donor profile. Email, SMS and automations included, along with every integration we build. AI in the foundation, not in a separate licence. Companies are enriched automatically with financials, a contact person and research on their giving, private donors are sorted into ready-made segments, and the foundation module maps Sweden's more than 17 000 foundations. The price is fixed, with no per-user licence and no consulting hours, and it lands at least 30 percent below Salesforce's total cost.
If you are an international federation with case management, programme delivery and your own IT department, Salesforce is still the right tool. If you are a Swedish organisation with 5 to 100 employees and 20 to 500 million kronor in annual income, and you want to raise more and administer less, Samfora does the work.
How we wrote this
We build Samfora. Read this as a competitor's comparison. Every comparison we publish follows the same four rules:
- 1.
We say where the other product is better, in its own section and in the table. Some of these systems beat Samfora for particular organisations, and the page says so.
- 2.
Every area gets its own verdict. There is no overall winner, because no tool wins everything. Ours included.
- 3.
Competitor facts carry the date we checked them at the source. Prices and features change, and you should be able to see how old every fact is.
- 4.
We name our own customers only when they have approved it.
Where the products came from
Salesforce was founded in 1999 as a CRM for sales teams. The Nonprofit Success Pack arrived as a free add-on package on top of Sales Cloud, and Nonprofit Cloud in its current form launched in 2023 on the same core. The nonprofit data model is a layer on a sales system. That is why everything is possible, and why everything needs configuration.
Samfora was founded in 2025 in Stockholm, and the first line of code in the platform was written in January 2026. We started from Swedish reality: Swish gifts with no sender data, Autogiro mandates, Bankgiro files, tax deductions, the 90-account and a fundraising manager spending 20 hours a week on administration. We build the platform together with Swedish organisations such as UN Women Sverige, IM Individuell Människohjälp, Operation Smile, Operation Aid, ALS-fonden, Regnbågsfonden, GAPF, Stiftelsen Expo, Reformaten, Ny Gemenskap, Framtidsjorden and cureFAchildren. We have no code from 1999 to look after, and we are not a consultancy. That is the whole point.
Area by area
Price and total cost
Salesforce, checked 25 October 2026 on salesforce.com/se: Nonprofit Cloud Sales & Service Core costs 625 kr per user per month, Advanced 1 250 kr and Sales Max 2 850 kr, all billed annually on an annual contract. Eligible organisations get 10 Core licences at no cost through Power of Us. Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud (for donor portals), MuleSoft and Data 360 are separate add-ons priced on request.
Those are the licences. The real cost has four parts, and Swedish organisations often mix them up: the platform licence (often free), the licence for the partner's fundraising package, the consulting hours (project and ongoing) and Marketing Cloud, which is billed by volume. The more email and SMS you send, the more it costs.
A worked example, based on what we see at organisations with around 100 million kronor in income and 25 users:
| Cost line | Per year |
|---|---|
| Licences: 10 free, 15 paid Core at 625 kr a month | 112 500 kr |
| Partner's fundraising package (licence) | 200 000 kr |
| Marketing Cloud, email and SMS to the donor base | 400 000 kr |
| Consulting hours: maintenance, integrations, reports, training | 1 000 000 kr |
| Total | about 1.7 million kr |

None of these lines is the Salesforce licence. Everything around it is what costs, and everything around it is what you actually use.
Samfora has a fixed price based on the size of your organisation. Platform licence, every module, Rule for email and SMS, every integration, data storage, support, migration and ongoing development are included. There is no per-user licence and there are no consulting hours. The only usage-based charge is SMS, at 0.50 kr each. For the organisation in the example, Samfora lands at least 30 percent lower, which means under 1.2 million kronor with everything included, and that is before your staff get back the hours that go to reconciliation today.
VERDICT
Salesforce for a small organisation that gets by on ten free licences and has a volunteer Salesforce administrator on the board. Samfora as soon as you need Marketing Cloud, Swish, Autogiro or a consultant to move forward.
Implementation and consultant dependency
Salesforce is sold through partners and implemented through partners. The data model has to be configured, the fundraising flows built, the payments connected and the reports created. That is months of work, and every future change goes back to the partner. Salesforce's own pricing page points to Professional Services and certified partners to "unlock your data". One Swedish fundraising manager summed it up for us: it is incredibly flexible, everything is possible, and everything is very expensive to do.
Samfora arrives ready for Swedish fundraising. You get a dedicated contact who maps your data, imports donors and donations and trains your team. You spend 2 to 4 hours a week during the migration, and after go-live you run the platform yourselves. Time to go-live is 2 to 12 weeks depending on data volume. Hela Människan and GAPF each moved from NGO Pro to Samfora in under a month. There are no ongoing consulting costs, because we have nothing to sell there. For organisations with large growth ambitions we offer a charity-deployed engineer instead, working hands-on inside your operation. Get in touch if you want to know more.
VERDICT
Samfora. Salesforce if you already have a full-time administrator or a partner relationship you are happy with.
Swedish payment rails: Swish, Autogiro and Bankgiro
Swedes give with Swish and monthly donors pay by Autogiro. Neither exists in Salesforce. Autogiro is normally handled with FinDock, a paid AppExchange add-on that processes Bankgirot's files. The organisation needs its own Bankgirot agreement, FinDock is registered as the service bureau with the bank, and digital mandates with BankID are a separate paid feature (FinDock documentation, checked 25 October 2026). Swish needs yet another connection. Every link is a licence, an integration and something to maintain when Salesforce or the bank updates.
In Samfora, Swish, Autogiro, Bankgiro and card payments are part of the product. Payments arrive through Repejo and Stripe, the bank account is read through open banking so that 100 percent of what comes in becomes donor data, and every transaction is matched to the right donor profile on email, phone number or personal identity number. Duplicates are stopped against the external ID, and uncertain matches become review tasks for a human, never guesses. No manual reconciliation.
VERDICT
Samfora. There is no scenario in which Salesforce handles Swish and Autogiro without extra cost.
Integrations
Salesforce has the largest integration market in the industry. AppExchange has thousands of apps, MuleSoft is a product of its own and there are consultants who can do anything. That is the ecosystem's strength, and its business model: every integration is a licence or a consulting project. When a Swedish organisation we spoke to was changing payment provider, they described the integration into Salesforce as "a huge cost to build".
We see integrations as a moat, not a revenue line. Samfora connects to Repejo, Stripe, Adoveo and samfora.org for payments and campaigns, to the banks through open banking, to Rule for marketing automation, email, SMS and RCS, and to Outlook, with an open API and webhooks for the rest. Support reaches you directly in Microsoft Teams, where you already work. We build the integrations, they are included in the price and we maintain them. When one customer needs a new connection, we build it once and every customer gets it.
VERDICT
Salesforce on breadth. Samfora on everything a Swedish fundraising organisation actually uses, with no price tag.
AI and automation
Salesforce has Agentforce, and it is a serious effort. But AI in Salesforce is a separate budget. Every edition comes with "flex credits" for AI that run out, and the agents only see what someone has configured into Salesforce. The payment data sits in FinDock, the sends in Marketing Cloud and the Swish gifts in an Excel sheet. An agent is only as good as the context it can see.
Samfora is built with AI in the foundation. Today: AI field mapping on import, email and SMS drafts written from your own data, segmentation in plain language, and analytics. Agents working with a human in the approval loop are in development. The AI features run on Mistral and other European models, and more European models are launching at speed. No model is ever trained on your data. All of it is part of the licence, not an add-on.
VERDICT
Samfora for AI that works on the whole donor picture without an extra licence. Salesforce if you have already centralised everything in Salesforce and have the budget for Agentforce.
Data storage, security and GDPR
Salesforce can store Swedish customers' data in Stockholm. Hyperforce is available in Sweden, and the Customer 360 suite is available here (Salesforce Help, checked 25 October 2026). But the same documentation says that some customer data may be stored outside the country for support and operations, that a product may have components running in other countries, and that the EU Operating Zone does not let you choose a country. Where Marketing Cloud puts your sends is a question for your partner. And Salesforce is an American company under American law.
Samfora stores all data encrypted in Sweden. Hosting and storage run within the EU/EEA, we only use sub-processors that meet the same requirements, and nothing is transferred to third countries. Your data is never used to train AI models. A data processing agreement is ready, every data subject right is supported and consent is handled automatically per channel and purpose. The whole database is yours: export everything with one click as Excel, CSV or SIE. Larger organisations with special requirements can run Samfora on their own servers.
VERDICT
Samfora. Salesforce can be configured for Swedish storage, but you have to verify it yourselves, product by product.
Data model: donors, members, volunteers, companies and foundations
Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud has a nonprofit data model with programmes, cases and volunteer management in the higher editions. It is deep and general, built for American nonprofits with programme delivery. Membership in a Swedish association, Autogiro mandates and foundation applications are things you configure.
Samfora has five objects at its core: donors, members, volunteers, companies and foundations. Every donation, send and interaction lands on one complete profile. The member module handles memberships, fees and renewals in the same profile as the gifts. The corporate and foundation modules are covered in the next section. Through samfora.org, peer-to-peer campaigns, corporate donations, invoices, card donations, monthly giving, matching campaigns and donors' own self-service pages are included as well.
VERDICT
Salesforce for programme delivery and case management. Samfora for fundraising in Sweden.
Companies and foundations: enrichment and grants
Salesforce has no built-in enrichment of Swedish companies and no database of Swedish foundations. Company data is bought as a separate service, for example from Vainu, which connects Nordic company data directly to Salesforce (vainu.com, checked 26 October 2026). It is data built for B2B sales, not fundraising, and it is one more licence. Foundation applications are something you configure.
Samfora enriches every company in the register out of the box, with no add-on: revenue, net result, profit margin and headcount from the annual report, a primary contact person, website and social media following, and research on the company's giving with known donations, a giving profile, sourced examples and its ESG report. Ready-made segments for corporate leads and corporate donors are in place. Right now several of our customers are using it in their Christmas campaigns to small and medium-sized businesses. None of the systems we compare ourselves with has this built in.
The foundation module maps Sweden's more than 17 000 foundations from the county administrative boards' foundation register and matches their purposes against yours, so you can see which foundations could fund your work, and it handles the applications in the same system. We are testing it with current customers from November 2026, it is included for Samfora customers in 2026, and in 2027 we open it to every nonprofit in Sweden.
VERDICT
Reporting and analytics
Salesforce reporting is powerful, and with Tableau nearly infinite. It is also something you build. The standard reports mirror sales processes, and the report "donors who gave last Christmas but not this year" becomes a consulting ticket if nobody in-house can create it.
Samfora reports on what Swedish fundraising actually measures: monthly donors in and out, reactivated donors, campaign results per channel, corporate income and average gift, all on data that was matched automatically. The analytics module is included, and you can ask the questions in plain language.
For private donors, ready-made segments are there from day one: monthly donors, one-time donors, donors who have given twice, major donors with a 12 or 24 month window, and lapsed donors. The segments update automatically and can drive sends and automations directly. RFM analysis, which scores every donor on how recently, how often and how much they give, launches at the turn of the year, with lifetime value per donor to follow.
VERDICT
Salesforce for bespoke analysis with your own analyst. Samfora for reports the head of fundraising pulls themselves.
Ecosystem and maturity
Salesforce has 25 years, thousands of apps, a global partner market and a Trust page to show the board. Samfora was founded in 2025 and builds the platform together with Swedish design partners. We do not have Salesforce's ecosystem and will not have it for many years.
What we have instead is a guarantee: at least a 50 percent reduction in administrative time after the first year, or your money back.
VERDICT
Where Salesforce is the better choice
- You are a large or international organisation with case management, programme delivery or several legal entities sharing one platform.
- You already have a full-time Salesforce administrator or a partner you trust, and the configuration investment is made.
- You need a specific AppExchange app or Tableau-level analytics.
- You are two people with a volunteer Salesforce expert on the board and ten free licences are enough.
- You want the world's largest CRM vendor behind you, whatever it costs around it.
Where Samfora is the better choice
- You fundraise in Sweden and want Swish, Autogiro, Bankgiro and cards matched to the donor profile from day one, without add-ons.
- You are already paying the Salesforce tax: Marketing Cloud, partner licence and consulting hours for every change.
- You want email, SMS and automations in the same system as the donor data, at a fixed price.
- You want to know exactly where your donor data lives (Sweden) and that it never trains any AI.
- You raise money from companies and foundations and want the companies enriched and Sweden's foundations mapped in the same system, with no add-on services.
- You want private donors sorted into ready-made segments that drive your sends, with RFM and lifetime value on the way.
- You have 5 to 100 employees, no IT department, and want to be live in weeks.
- You want a vendor that takes the risk: your money back if administration is not halved.
